A Labrador does not have one automatic bed size
Choose from the space your own dog uses while resting. Two Labradors of similar weight may sleep differently: one curls against a headrest, while another stretches with their legs out. Age, mobility and the room layout also change what is practical.
This is a research-based buying guide. Earlier versions described personal tests and medical improvements that we could not substantiate; those claims have been removed.
Measure before comparing prices
Write down these four measurements:

Worked example: if your dog occupies a 40 × 24-inch rectangle when stretched out, a bed measuring 36 × 28 inches overall is too short for that position. A 52 × 36-inch bed may be worth investigating, but a raised headrest still takes some space. These numbers are an illustration, not a measurement of a typical Labrador.

Cleaning and replacement checklist
Before paying, check whether:
- The cover can be removed without dismantling complicated bolsters.
- The cover fits in your washing machine under the stated care instructions.
- A liner is included, optional or unavailable.
- Replacement covers are sold for that exact model and size.
- The return terms allow the kind of fit check you need.
For a dog who chews bedding, a foam bed's orthopedic label does not address that behavior. Inspect for damage and do not rely on an unsupported chew-proof claim. For incontinence, compare liner coverage and cleaning instructions rather than assuming the foam can be washed.
Comfort and mobility
An older Labrador does not automatically need a particular foam thickness or brand. Entry height and room to reposition may matter as much as the material. Discuss pain, new stiffness or difficulty settling with your vet; buying a bed cannot diagnose or treat the cause.
